Attributes in the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG or OCG refer to the elemental properties of a Monster Card. In the game, the following Attributes exist:

  • Earth
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination
  • Wind
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination
  • Fire
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination
  • Water
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination
  • Dark
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination
  • Light
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination

The God Cards are the only cards to have the 'Divine' Attribute:

Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination

. However, because the God Cards are not legal for tournament play, the issue of their Attribute ever comes up.

Some Counterfeit Cards have fake Attributes; some of these include:

  • Sonics
  • Storm
  • Gold
  • Frog
  • Robo (possibly related to the Machine card-type)
  • Pie
  • Evil (possibly a mistranslation of the "Dark" Attribute)
  • Electric (possibly related to the Thunder card-type)
  • Air (possibly a mistranslation of the "Wind" Attribute
  • Smoke
  • Rubber
  • Devil (possibly related to the Demon/Fiend card-type)
  • Sound
  • Land (possibly a mistranslation of the "Earth" attribute)

The many Yu-Gi-Oh video games also feature Attributes (sometimes called "classes" or various other things), and some of them even introduce new Attributes (such as Shadow or Dream) or do away with all the standard Attributes and use a superiority/inferiority ranking to further alter a card's abilities. A few games use Attributes alongside a superiority/inferiority system. Sometimes a card's Attribute works in conjunction with Terrain, similar to the Field Spell cards of the TCG or OCG, where a card of a certain Attribute can have stronger ATK or DEF values depending on what kind of Terrain it sits on. In the video games where this feature is available, increased movement of cards (where card movement is made on the field, as in Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duelists of the Roses) also applies to cards boosted by their Attribute/Terrain combination.
