Secure! All Sites now SSL Protected

Secure!

All sites across the Seventh Star Network are now secured with an SSL certificate. What does that mean? Well, you can feel assured that whether you’re logging in to one of the many fanlistings on the Network, uploading files, answering a poll or filling out a form, your data is secure! It’s going from you to me, with no unknown stops in between!

In the meantime, if you notice any broken images or other odd behavior on any of the Seventh Star Network sites, please let me know! Feel free to comment on this (or any other) post, email me, reach out to me on Twitter (@the_sweet)… whatever’s easiest!

FOUR new fanlistings!

I’ve been a busy bee the past few months, folks! There are not TWO more fanlistings here on the Seventh Star network, but TWICE that: FOUR NEW FANLISTINGS!

Please check them out if you are interested and have a moment; I’d love to know what you think of them, and what you’d like to see more of on the sites!

  • Aroma Tactics, celebrating the character of Mai Kujaku (Mai Valentine) from Yu-Gi-Oh!, the hit anime and manga series from Kazuki Takahashi
  • Fusion Tempest, the fanlisting for Princess and Sailor Kakyuu of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon fame, as seen in Naoko Takeuchi’s anime and manga (and musicals, but not yet in any video games, hmmm…)
  • Quirk of Fate, the fanlisting for Claude C. Kenny x Rena Lanford from Star Ocean: The Second Story (also known as Star Ocean: Second Evolution, or its anime/manga counterpart, Star Ocean EX) video game from Square-Enix.
  • Rumor Has It that you should check out this fanlisting for Atlus Games’ Shin Megami Tensei – Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.

Two more fanlistings!

I’ve added two more fanlistings to the Seventh Star Network:

  • The Royal Library of Genovia, for Meg Cabot’s bestselling The Princess Diaries series (all 11 books, plus novellas and side books)
  • Written in the Stars, for the relationship between Chiba Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask/Endymion x Tsukino Usagi/Sailor Moon/Serenity x Seiya Kou/Sailor Star Fighter from Naoko Takeuchi’s hit Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon anime and manga.

Check them out and let me know what you think!

Two new fanlistings!

A big thanks to Huma for letting me adopt Dancing Queen (the Anzu Mazaki fanlisting) and the Himeno Awayuki x Hayate fanlisting (Prétear), now named Windswept Love.

Both sites are now live, and more content will be getting added to them soon. Please check them out and join the fanlistings if you’re a fan of either Anzu Mazaki/Téa Gardner from Yu-Gi-Oh! or Himeno Awayuki and Hayate (Knight of Wind) from Shin Shirayuki Hime Densetsu Prétear (the New Legend of Snow White Prétear).

Blue Eyes and Apricots error fixed

Hi all,
Not sure if you experienced an error accessing Blue Eyes and Apricots recently (seeing either a blank page or an error 500), but if you have, that issue is now resolved. I use a custom WordPress theme for the fanlisting, but the plugin that powers the actual fanlisting part (members and so forth) had a snippet of code in one of the theme files that caused issues. Those lines are now commented out, so the issue shouldn’t come up again.

Don’t hesitate to let me know if you spot any problems on any of the Seventh-Star.net sites!

Ace of Hearts, now powered by WordPress!

I’ve converted yet another fanlisting to WordPress. This time it’s Ace of Hearts, the Sailor V (Minako Aino/Sailor Venus) x Kaitou Ace (Saijou Ace) fanlisting. I’m still working on migrating members of the old fanlisting over –for whatever reason, it’s not as easy as it has been with other fanlistings, such as Mechanical Innocence or Blue Eyes and Apricots.

I’m also doing a few more aesthetic changes for the site, so if you spot any glitches in your browser, please let me know! Any error codes, screenshots of anything that looks weird, or other problems are all things I want to know about.

If you received an email letting you know to login or create a password for the fanlisting for your account, here’s what to do once you’re on the AOH website: Go to Account > Login and click “Forgot Your Password.” The system will walk you through resetting it. Your username is not the same as your email address, but you can use either to retrieve your password. Enter either your username OR your email, answer the antispam question, and you’ll get a secret key to allow you to reset your password– it’s that easy!

Please check out the newly-revamped fanlisting and let me know what you think!

Mechanical Innocence – Now Powered by WordPress!

Azurelist is a fanlisting collective of seven fanlistings; I am slowly migrating them to WordPress, as the script that I used for years, Enthusiast, has gone a very long time without so much as a hint of an update. Furthermore, supporting scripts like CodeSort are no longer compatible with currently-supported PHP engines, and render managing a fanlisting that much more difficult.

Initially, I wanted to try and manually integrate WordPress and Enthusiast, but it’s incredibly difficult to do so without introducing security risks. Instead, I discovered a “membership” solution that mimics much of what Enthusiast and other fanlisting scripts do, in the form of a WordPress plugin.

Now, for the first time, I am happy to announce that Mechanical Innocence, the AnimeFanlistings.com-approved fanlisting for the powerful, playful tanks known as Tachokoma from the hit anime series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, is now powered by WordPress!

All members from the old fanlisting have been moved over. If you want to know how to login and manage your profile, simply go to My Profile > Login and click “Forgot Your Password” and the system will walk you through resetting it. Your username is not the same as your email address, but you can use either to retrieve your password. Enter either your username OR your email, answer the antispam question, and you’ll get a secret key to allow you to reset your password– it’s that easy!

Please check out the newly-revamped fanlisting and let me know what you think!

2016 Updates

It’s true: I’m not terribly good with posting updates here as often as I should. I hope that’s something I can change in 2017, especially since I’ll be wrapping up my grad school program in Library and Information Science.

2016 Updates:

  • New fanfiction status page (also in the Fanfiction menu for quick access anytime)
  • Joined Patreon — if you like this site, its content (including writing), please consider supporting me there!
  • Continuing the migration of fanlistings from Enthusiast to WordPress (using UserPro)

We’re now on WordPress 4.7, and I’ve gotten rid of a lot of themes and plugins that were otherwise slowing the network down.

Hopefully 2017 Updates:

For the coming year, I hope to complete a few projects as well as embark upon a few others:

  • Complete the migration of all fanlistings on Azurelist to WordPress powered by UserPro
  • Continue to update Along the Way, the CleopatraWolf Azureshipping comic inspired by a fanfiction written by Flashchimp
  • Migrate WikiFic to a new platform – Currently powered by MediaWiki, but it’s a pain to update. Ideally, there would be some sort of WordPress-powered Wiki plugin, but I’ve yet to find a good option for this. Suggestions are welcomed!
  • Get Epiphany (my personal fanfiction archive) up and running, powered by eFiction 5
    • Update the Seto Kaiba x Anzu Mazaki archive Dragonfayth to the latest eFiction software

May 2015 Update

Sorry for the radio silence, folks. I have been updating things on the back end, but content-wise, there’s not a lot new here…yet.

Plans are in the works to convert all of the Enthusiast-powered fanlistings to WordPress sites using a plugin called UserPro, and hopefully I will also be able to convert WikiFic into a new, also WordPress-powered encyclopedia–not just for Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfiction readers and writers, but also fans in general, who find the other Yu-Gi-Oh! wikis out there lacking in unique, original, and detailed content.

Truthfully the MediaWiki platform is bloated and difficult to work with: it requires a special method of updating, not all extensions have version numbers, and sometimes even when extensions are updated, the version number isn’t properly changed in the extension itself!

The most recent update brings stability and security to the platform, but it has left me unfortunately unable to confirm new user accounts or even post new pages without a fatal error that I have had little luck understanding.

If you have suggestions for better wiki-like software, especially those that work with WordPress, your comments are greatly appreciated!

Late May Update

Back again, this time with some small incremental updates to WikiFic‘s main software (MediaWiki), along with several extensions. As far as I’ve been able to find, the site itself and all extensions are up-to-date, but I have seen a handful of error messages pop up in very select circumstances. If you happen to see any, please let me know as soon as possible!

I’ve also changed the form for signing up to create a new account, if you don’t have one already; in order to combat spam, it is required that would-be WikiFic editors write a minimum 50-word biography that will appear on their user profile page, but may also include additional information including favorite websites, their relationship with the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom, and more. Any users signing up with usernames that already exist, usernames that are the same as or similar to character names from any of the series’ incarnations, or offensive, inappropriate, or “empty” biographies will be rejected. Users can always re-apply once they’ve familiarized themselves with the rules for account creation and editing at the site.

I’m always trying to go through the site to make the language more accessible and relevant for the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom and make the site as useful as possible for its intended audience: fanfiction readers and writers involved in some capacity with the various Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Of course, fans from the casual to the hardcore are also welcomed as editors and readers, as are players of the Original Card Game (OCG) or Collectible Card Game (CCG).

The Along the Way bug I mentioned in the Mid-May Update has been somewhat resolved; the Select Story chapter dropdown now only shows chapters with comic pages, so clicking on one of the listed chapters should take you to the first page of that chapter, but they’re still listed in reverse chronological order, with the most recent/current chapter at the top (Chapter 7 as of this writing), rather than Chapter 1, as it should be. I may have gotten a clue as to why this is happening, and I hope to get it fixed soon.
